This week I am considering my nominations for the upcoming Bath Good Food Awards, taking place at the Guildhall on October 4th. Anyone can nominate establishments, and the closing date is August 31st 2011 – so get your thinking caps on!
Here are my first few nominations…
Best Asian
This category had me split in two, between the rustic Nepalese Yak Yeti Yak on Manvers Street and the plush Thai Balcony just off Kingsmead Square. There are a number of Thai restaurants in Bath, but the Thai Balcony has a luxurious and exclusive feel as well as absolutely delicious food, I recommend the chicken satays and guarantee that you will find that they taste infinitely better than any you have tasted before!
Yak Yeti Yak, on the other hand, is underground and has a much more rustic feel; the restaurant is made up of a series of rooms, some of which feature traditional low tables for a truly authentic dining experience! The food is simple, but delicious, the chefs can actually make lentils taste amazing!
For a different type of Asian cuisine I wholeheartedly recommend Yak Yeti Yak; delicious, atmospheric and brilliant value, and that is why they receive a nomination from me!
Best Indian
Deciding on the best Indian restaurant in Bath is perhaps one of the easiest decisions I have ever made. Good value and consistently brilliant service and food with an unpretentious atmosphere make Panahar on Moorland Road the winner for me!
Best Italian
Bath is full of Italian restaurants, most are large chains, but there is one independent that really stands out from the crowd; the Real Italian Pizza Company of York Street is a brilliant eatery - light and breezy in the summer, but cosy in the winter with steamed up windows and a real pizza oven burning away in the kitchen. Perfect. A truly local establishment, the owner can often be seen cheerfully serving delicious ice creams in the gelato parlour next door. The pizzas are large fall-off-the-edge-of-your-plate sort of affairs covered in fresh ingredients and are a welcome change from the often bland pizzas found in the high street chains. The good food doesn’t stop at the pizzas, my favourite dish is the melanzane alla parmigiana (aubergine, no carbs!) and you absolutely must try dessert! Bellissimo!
