I recently spent a very pleasant Saturday afternoon at Bailbrook House, Bath - doing something that I have wanted to do for a very long time; learn how to ice cupcakes (properly!)!
My forays into the art of the cupcakes have so far been mixed, either my sponge is not quite right, or my icing just ends up as a brightly coloured splodge and covered in sprinkles, but I hoped that Celia would be able to teach me the ‘art’ of cupcake decoration!
We were seated in one of the original rooms of Bailbrook House with the sun pouring through the sash windows and a plethora of cake-decorating goodies laid out in front of us, we were each given a box of six ‘naked’ cupcakes. Celia then taught us six different methods of icing including several different ways to pipe buttercream, as well as how to use fondant and glaze icing. After each demonstration we were able to use our creativity and decorate each cupcake with colourful icing and as many different sprinkles, decorations and glitters as we wanted - with some beautiful, and some interesting results!
A fabulous way to spend an afternoon, everyone comes away with new skills, and six beautifully presented cupcakes to enjoy!
